Presenting some of the finest choral works of three prominent composers, this disc illustrates the development of church music from the Victorian “Grandfather” of the genre, S. S. Wesley, to the 20th century works of Bairstow and his innovative pupil Finzi.

Included is the first known recording of Wesley’s “Thou judge of quick and dead.”

Recorded in St Alban the Martyr, Holborn, London, CONSORTIUM and Barbieri have produced another outstanding disc with breath-taking dynamics, superbly controlled singing and oozing musicality from start to finish.
