Dominick Argento (b. 1927) is generally considered
as one of the leading US composers of songs and lyric opera and one of the most successful in terms of performances. This disc features three of his most significant song-cycles.
Born
in Kansas City, dramatic tenor Howard Haskin enjoys international
renown for the extraordinary vocal expressiveness, impeccable musicality
and theatrical intensity he brings to every performance. He has performed
widely in the UK in operatic roles and recital, including Covent Garden
and the Royal Albert Hall, and with many international orchestras including
the LSO and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. His discography includes the
Grammy-nominated recording of Dallapiccola's Il Prigioniero,
Massenet's Thérèse and the world premiere
of Schnittke's Life with an Idiot.
